1670 families shifted to safer places in Badgam

Jammu, April 05, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a large scale evacuation took place in landslide prone village of Badgam district following torrential rains in which led to death of 16 persons in the district and brought the Valley on the brink of second flood in seven months. The families would be able to return only after the situation improves, said officials.

“1670 families comprising 11236 souls have been evacuated to safer places in seven blocks of the district,” said a senior district official. Badgam comprises 502 revenue villages out of which 88 villages spread in seven blocks, mostly located on slopes or hillocks, have been marked in red zone owing to apprehensions of landslides. The district was one of the worst affected in weeklong rainfall across Kashmir.
