Islamabad, June 06, 2012 (PPI-OT): The leadership of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) recommends concentrated cooperation in research and Development in the fields of agricultural and science and technology to give boost to economic cooperation with China.
While speaking at 7th China-South Asia Business forum, which concluded on 6th June 2012, Haji Fazal Kadir Khan Sherani, President of FPCCI said that the present volume of bilateral trade ($ 10 billion) between China and Pakistan was not up to the potential available and it could be enhanced manifold provided attention is focused on valued-added items particularly from Pakistan, which will help reduce chronic trade deficit of $ 9.2 billion faced by Pakistan.
“FPCCI has established its offices in Chengdu and Kunming to improve the trade relations” said President FPCCI while adding that special measures were required to improve exportability of Pakistani products in Chinese Market.
Mr. Malik, Vice President SAARC CCI and former President said that China has increased production of various crops by more than 100 times through hybrid seeds and has been able to maximize the production per yield, which is three to four times more than that of Pakistan. “We need to learn from Chinese experience to increase the production of cotton, rice, wheat and other essential crops” said Mr. Malik.
Mr. Haroon Rashid in his speech at the forum emphasized for institutional linkages between China and Pakistan and welcomes the initiative of CCPIT to facilitate cooperation between Educational institutions by sign MoU. He further added that both countries need to work jointly on Human Resource Development and frequent exchange of delegations on reciprocal basis.
