JRL vows to resist any attempt to change IOK demography

Srinagar, October 29, 2017 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has said that any move aimed at changing the demographic composition of the territory will be resisted tooth and nail.

The resistance leaders in a joint statement issued in Srinagar asked the Kashmiri people to be ready for mass agitation against any amendment or change in the State Subject laws including Article 35A. Indian Supreme Court is scheduled to hear, tomorrow, a petition seeking abrogation of Article 35A, which debars non-Kashmiris from purchasing land or property, seek a government job or vote in the Assembly elections in occupied Kashmir. The leaders said that any move to tinker with the Article 35A would create a Palestine-like situation in Kashmir. They appealed to the lawyers, writers, scholars and other respected members of society to make people aware of the consequences of the move.

Meanwhile, people took to the streets and staged massive demonstrations after Indian troops launched a cordon and search operation in Hajin area of Bandipora district, today. The protesters raised high-pitched anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. The troops fired pellets and teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators injuring several of them. The stiff resistance from the people forced the troops to call off the operation. Media reports said that the troops killed two youth in the area. Earlier, one Indian Policeman was killed while another was injured in an attack in the same area.

People held forceful demonstrations in Soibugh area of Badgam district also following the injuring of a motorcycle-borne youth after he was deliberately hit by an Indian Army vehicle. On the other hand, the civil society members in a meeting with Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent Police, Budgam, demanded immediate release of Syed Shahid Yousuf, the son of prominent freedom leader, Syed Salahuddin, by India’s National Investigation Agency.

They warned to launch mass protests if the NIA continued to harass family members of Syed Salahuddin. The Chairman of Employees Joint Action Committee, Abdul Qayoom Wani, in a statement also called for release of Syed Shahid Yousuf. Indian troops raided the house of Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement Chairman, Molvi Bashir Irfani, in Aaloochi Bagh area of Srinagar and harassed the inmates.
