Joint resistance leaders call for shutdown, protest rallies on Burhan’s anniversary

Srinagar, July 04, 2017 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has issued a protest calendar in connection with the first martyrdom anniversary of popular youth leader, Burhan Wani. The leaders in a joint statement issued in Srinagar said that complete strike would be observed on July 8 and 13 to pay tributes to Burhan Wani and the martyrs of July 13, 1931.

Burhan Wani was martyred by Indian troops in a fake encounter on July 8 last year. His extrajudicial killing triggered the ongoing mass uprising in the territory. As per the calendar a rally will be held on July 8 in Tral to pay homage to Burhan Wani and all other martyrs. Similar rallies will be held at all district headquarters and elsewhere in the world where Kashmiris are residing. The resistance leaders have urged people to visit the martyrs’ residences on July 9 and participate in an online “Kashmir Awareness Campaign” on July 11.
