Israel arrests 160 Jerusalemites, mostly children

Jerusalem (IINA) The Israeli police have arrested 160 Jerusalemites, mostly youths and minors, in the past five days, and expelled many activists and cadres from Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem’s Old City, said Issa Qaraqe, head of detainees’ affairs for the Palestinian Authority.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Qaraqe said the occupation authorities have enacted more laws to arrest Palestinian children, so that those who are accused of stone-throwing offences to be sentenced to two years of actual imprisonment. He noted that the rate of detention of children rose from 700 to 1,200 detainees annually.
