Court orders flouted, Ayaz, Kalwal put in police lockup

Srinagar, January 08, 2017 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have shifted freedom leaders Noor Muhammad Kalwal and Ayaz Akbar from Kotbhalwal jail in Jammu to Rajbagh police station in Srinagar despite the high court of the territory has quashed draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) against them and directed the authorities to release them, immediately.

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader, Noor Mohammad Kalwal and the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, were brought to Rajbagh police station, Srinagar, late last night.

An APHC statement said that both pro-freedom leaders had been illegally placed in police custody. “The court quashed their PSA last week and directed their immediate release but still they are under police custody and the detention of both of them is illegal,” the statement added.
